Mac
4/15/98 - 5/18/2010
Mac was a big, farmboy Sheltie. Just 7 weeks old when he came to live with us, he grew and grew until he was just the right size to play soccer and rough house with our boys. He stole our hearts when we met him, and he broke our hearts when he left us yesterday at the age of 12.
Mac was loyal, and brave and beautiful. He was everything I ever wanted, and more. My husband could have done without the constant "talking", but he was a very smart boy and wanted us to know about everything he thought important. Mac was a quick learner, and knew all the regular stuff, but could pick up more subtle ideas. He licked his lips on request, and learned the spelling of many of his favorite activities, which we tried to discuss without letting him know a walk, or frisbee toss was under consideration.
We miss Mac terribly. He went so fast. One hour he was happily eating his steak topped breakfast, and the next he was having trouble standing. We raced him to the vet, he was perked up for treats as my son carried him in, but they only managed X-rays, which showed nothing dramatic, before we lost him. In spite of being on Frontline, he had been treated for anaplasmosis last month (a tick borne disease)and that may have been a factor. It can kill.
It still seems as if it were all a bad dream, and any moment he will come prancing through the door. But the years of joy he gave more than make up for the dreadful sorrow now. We just wish him back with more time to say good bye. He was the best.
We'll always love you Mac.
